This antique Hammond Multiplex folding typewriter is one of the most interesting examples of early typewriters out there, and is a true collectible. This style of typewriter is unique in the fact that it uses a shuttle rather than a a typebar. The spacebar folds up so that it fits into a small carrying case.
According to this detailed blog post, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit on a Hammond typewriter!
This particular item is unrestored condition, and would need quite a bit of work to be usable, but it's pretty great nonetheless.
